During last night's State of the City Address Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke promised to give low income families internet service for half the price.
The new program called Net-bridge would give families who have students eligible for free and reduced lunch at school discounted internet.
EPB spokes-person John Pless says the program is still in the early stages and nothing is set in stone yet.
Pless said "Right now some of the details are being finalized we continue working on a process that will vet participants in the program. Once we have this all finalized we're going to present it to the EPB board of directors and it will be up to them to approve it."
Pless says they hope to have the program approved by the start of the 2015/2016 school year, the service would cost $26.99 per month, that's about half the price for a typical household.
