Recently retired Director of Lafayette Utilities System, Terry Huval, outlines the history of the Fiber To The Home Initiative which began in 2004 under the administration of City-Parish President Joey Durel in Lafayette LA. The city was the first in Louisiana to offer a 100% community owned, 100% fiber-optic network. Service became available to the first customers in February 2009 and in 2018, Lafayette is now one of the top 10 cities in the world offering the fastest fiber-optic network speeds.
