Verizon Fios throttles VPN's! Netflix should still work fine.
This is my personal experience with Verizon Fios Follow issue on Reddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/VPN/comments/2e26zs/verizon_fios_throttles_openvpn/ Verizon Speed: 75Mbps Download 75Mbps Upload Test servers all have 1Gbps speeds. I use OpenVPN to connect to several VPS Servers around the east coast. All with different backbone providers including: XO.net Level 3 Communications Cogent Communications Telia NLayer TW Telecom Others -------------------------------- When I connected my OpenVPN without HTTPS SSL: I get a throttle of 15 down 15up Mbps. When I hid my VPN traffic in a HTTPS SSL Layer on port TCP 443 the results were almost shockingly different. Almost all providers had exact the same results. #################################################### During testing I noticed HTTP protocol on any TCP port worked great most of the time!! (Using Apache2 downloading .bin file) - Most providers send and received data at my full speed 75/75Mbps. During testing we noticed however using port TCP 443 HTTPS protocol we had a great download, but as seen in the video we had trouble with upload tests when sending files back via 443 SSL encryption. (There is no VPN that I'm aware of that can hide in a unencrypted HTTP wrapper, only HTTPS, so I don't see any way around the upload issue at this point) So this workaround isn't perfect, but I hope someone also can confirm this on Fios. Sorry again for saying DRI in the video, I meant DPI. Here is a link to the Wiki explaining what DPI does and why Net Neutrality is VERY IMPORTANT!!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_packet_inspection FCC Comment Website. *Until September 15th 2014. about net neutrality http://www.fcc.gov/comments Links to getting your OpenVPN hidden from filtering (DPI) https://www.google.com/search?q=HTTPS+SSL+Layer+on+port+TCP+443+openvpn&oq=HTTPS+SSL+Layer+on+port+TCP+443+openvpn Software Commonly used. Obfsproxy Stunnel I hope I helped someone get a better connection via VPN, this stinks we have to do this in the first place. Link to Short version of video: watch?v=-7EzElm5v2Q

My Verizon FiOS installation
I show the main components of my FiOS installation and explain what you need to know if you plan on getting it. My ONT is an all-in-one indoor model, an outdoor model will have the battery pack and power supply as separate units, which will be installed indoors. One thing I did not mention is that the ONT needs a dedicated electrical ground, this can be as simple as connecting it to a copper water pipe. In the video, this is the green wire coming out of its top right corner. The main network switch you see is a 16-port gigabit switch from D-Link, with a patch panel above it, both mounted to a makeshift rack. The network lines run from the back of the patch panel to jacks in each room, but so far only the first floor is complete. I only have one phone line now, but I wired up the second line so that if I need another one in the future, all Verizon has to do it turn it on from their end. All the phone jacks in the house are wired up to both lines. Disclaimer: If you plan on installing your own power outlet for your ONT, DO YOUR HOMEWORK, WEAR RUBBER GLOVES, and BE CAREFUL! I take no responsibility if you electrocute yourself or cause an electrical fire! My plan consists of... Internet: 35/35. Normally tests at 42/31 over ethernet, haven't tested internet speed over Wi-fi. TV: Ultimate HD, One multi-room DVR, one set top box, one SD only set top box. HBO and Showtime Starz channel packs. Phone: Digital voice unlimited, one line.

Google Wifi Unboxing and Setup on Verizon FiOS
Get one on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2gu9tPD This is an unboxing and setup of the new Google Wifi - 2016 All the steps work for any setup situation, with the additional information needed to work with verizon fios. Get one on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2gu9tPD Buy the 3-pack: http://amzn.to/2gmvMbn Find us online at http://www.CarsandTechJDM.com On IG at: http://www.instagram.com/carsandtechjdm On Twitter at: http://www.twitter.com/carsandtechjdm and on Facebook at: http://www.facebook.com/jdmcity Inside the box you will find the google wifi unit itself, some quick start information and buried underneath are the ethernet and power cables. The power cable is integrated into the adapter and uses a USB Type-C connection. Max output is 3 amps. Since that is the max output over USB Type-C, it wouldn’t surprise me if you can use a standard Type-C to C cable with an appropriately powered charger. The ethernet cable is of a slim ribbon design. I find that feature very attractive in a cable. If your modem and router are separate, then you can skip this step, however, if you are using a Verizon FiOS router and have television service you must first tinker in the router settings. Login to your verizon router by opening a browser and going to this this address. http://192.168.0.1 - If that doesn’t work then try these: http://192.168.1.1, http://192.168.2.1, etc. If you do not know your login then it will probably be the default user name and password: Username: admin Login: admin Head over to wireless settings on the top left, then select basic security settings on the left navigation column. Here you must turn wireless off and scroll down to save your settings. You will now loose wifi connection and you are done with the Verizon stuff. Note: Plugging the unit in without disabling the fios router's wireless setting caused an issue. Disabling that setting is required. Disabling DHCP auto address allocation also cause some unwarranted issues. For now, I have left that setting on, rather than allocating addresses manually. Go ahead and plug your ethernet cable into one of the available LAN ports in the back of your verizon router. Connect the other end to the left most port on your google wifi and plug in the power cable. Install and open the Google Wifi app from the play store. Give it time to locate the device and follow the on screen prompts. Scan the QR code or manually type in the information that is on the bottom of the Google WiFi unit. When checking the internet connection, it may fail, retry until it works. For a custom location name, scroll down to the bottom. Enter your desired SSID and password. Connecting to the network may fail here as well because of the talks between the Verizon router and this unit. Just retry until it is completed. Continue through the process and wait a bit for everything to settle. After a few minutes all will work perfectly.
