Igniting creativity to transform corporate culture: Catherine Courage at TEDxKyoto 2012
Design leader Catherine Courage challenges us to drive innovation in the workplace by igniting our innate creativity from childhood. Catherine Courage Creativity & design leader History has repeatedly taught us that it often takes great courage to bring about great change. This fact is literally and figuratively embodied in the work of product design innovator and tri-athlete Catherine Courage. A 13 year resident of Silicon Valley, Catherine is currently a leader for a Silicon Valley product design group. Selected as one of Silicon Valley's "40 Under 40" young tech leaders, Catherine has worked passionately to fuse world-class product design with exceptional customer experience. Her vision has inspired her to co-author a book, as well as speak at Stanford University, the California College of the Arts, C100, 48 Hrs in the Valley, Tech Women Canada and FUSE. In addition to all this, she is also an advisor to several entrepreneurial groups and serves on the board of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Catherine strives for no less than to transform the corporate culture in Silicon Valley, and beyond, by using great design as the driving force for change. Catherine embodies the courage and energy vital to building a brighter future. http://www.tedxkyoto.com/en/events-2/tedxkyoto/ キャサリン カレッジ 創造的デザインリーダー 「偉大なる変革は、大胆な決断があってこそ」とは、歴史から得られる教訓のひとつ。 http://www.tedxkyoto.com/ja/events-2/tedxkyoto/ About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. The Fourth Phase of Water: Dr. Gerald Pollack at TEDxGuelphU
Does water have a fourth phase, beyond solid, liquid and vapor? University of Washington Bioengineering Professor Gerald Pollack answers this question, and intrigues us to consider the implications of this finding. Not all water is H2O, a radical departure from what you may have learned from textbooks. Pollack received his PhD in biomedical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 1968. He then joined the University of Washington faculty and is now professor of Bioengineering. His interests have ranged broadly, from biological motion and cell biology to the interaction of biological surfaces with aqueous solutions. His 1990 book, Muscles and Molecules: Uncovering the Principles of Biological Motion, won an "Excellence Award" from the Society for Technical Communication; his more recent book, Cells, Gels and the Engines of Life, won that Society's "Distinguished Award." Pollack received an honorary doctorate in 2002 from Ural State University in Ekaterinburg, Russia, and was more recently named an Honorary Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He received the Biomedical Engineering Society's Distinguished Lecturer Award in 2002. In 2008, he was the faculty member selected by the University of Washington faculty to receive their highest annual distinction: the Faculty Lecturer Award. Pollack is a Founding Fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering and a Fellow of both the American Heart Association and the Biomedical Engineering Society. He is also Founding Editor-in-Chief of the journal, WATER, and has recently received an NIH Transformative R01 Award. He was the 2012 recipient of the Prigogine Medal and in 2013 published his new book: The Fourth Phase of Water: Beyond Solid, Liquid, and Vapor. Reimagining Classrooms: Teachers as Learners and Students as Leaders | Kayla Delzer | TEDxFargo
Why do some classrooms look the same now as they did 70 years ago? In this passionate talk, second grade teacher Kayla Delzer speaks about her mission to revitalize learning and the classroom environment. Kayla explains how to release the power in the classroom by giving students ownership of their learning and making it relevant to them. Breaking down the four walls of the classroom allows her students to become globally connected - and you won’t believe the endeavors her students conquer by embracing purposeful technology. Kayla Delzer is a 2nd grade teacher and Project Lead the Way Lead Teacher in West Fargo, North Dakota. In August, she will begin her 8th year of teaching 2nd grade and her second year with West Fargo Public Schools (WFPS). Teaching is her true passion in life, and she enjoys her job and helping children to love learning and become creative problem solvers. Her students are her focus in life; they are like family to her. In August 2014, she completed her master’s degree in Elementary Education. She also serves on the Technology Task Force and Social Media Task Force for WFPS. Her classroom Twitter account, @tweetingtopdogs, has allowed her students to learn virtually with hundreds of classrooms and educational experts from all over the world. Kayla has teamed up with several companies to improve the lives of students and teachers, and she works frequently with GoNoodle and Remind. She is highly sought after by educational and technology companies to preview and review their products. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
